The Temple Sloan Family Foundation was founded in 1994 by business executive, O. Temple Sloan, Jr., and his wife, Carol C. Sloan.
Today the Foundation, based in Raleigh, North Carolina, provides constructive, long-lasting support via grants to organizations as well as scholarships based on merit and financial need to students pursuing undergraduate degrees.
Carol, the daughter of a Presbyterian minister, obtained a degree in Sociology from Meredith College. She was known for her passion for the community, and she believed firmly in the importance of all children receiving a quality education.
Though Carol passed in 2009, her heartbeat undeniably remains at the very root and core of the Foundation today.
Temple, a graduate of Duke University with a degree in Business, founded General Parts International/CARQUEST Auto Parts, Inc. in 1961... with only eight teammates, two trucks and a warehouse.
The company grew to 3,000 CARQUEST Auto Parts stores, including approximately 1,300 company owned stores employing over 14,000 employees.
Carol’s philanthropic heart combined with Temple’s success in business were the catalysts needed to start the Foundation in 1994.
